Ovarian Rejuvenation

Ovarian Rejuvenation is characterized by the presence of residual ovarian tissue after a female has had a surgical operation to get rid of one ovary or each ovary (oophorectomy).

Ovarian Rejuvenation (O R)

Ovarian rejuvenation is a new and experimental procedure that utilises platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections to help restore fertility and stimulate natural hormonal production in women who are unable to conceive or who suffer from symptoms associated with hormone deficiency. Recent technological advances have brought regenerative treatments for the ovaries, particularly ovarian rejuvenation, which is the novel therapeutic approach for restoring the quality of the ovarian reserve. The growth factors and other components in platelet rich plasma (PRP) have been clinically shown to potentially accelerate healing of injured or poorly healed tissue. Thus, when the PRP is injected into the ovaries, it stimulates new cellular growth in an attempt to restore fertility and ovarian hormone production, and also increase the quality of eggs. There is also evidence indicating that stem cells, found in the ovaries, can be induced to morph into new eggs and hormone producing cells by the injection of the patient's platelet-rich plasma into the ovaries.

How does it work?

The procedure of ovarian rejuvenation therapy takes approximately 2 hours. The preparation of the patient's PRP takes less than one hour. First, enough quantity of the patient's blood is drawn out and placed into a centrifuge. Centrifugation helps in order to separate out the platelets and then to prepare the PRP injection. After the injection is prepared, the patient will receive an intravenous sedation, so that the PRP injection can be administered.

The next part of the ovarian rejuvenation process is the injection of the PRP into the ovaries. This is done using a non-surgical, transvaginal ultrasound-guided injection. It has been observed that one round of treatment has been enough for a woman to experience the benefits of the treatment and it takes approximately 2 to 24 weeks for them to show. PRP in women causes

  • Symptoms of menopause to lessen
  • Periods to return to normal
  • Increase in sexual drive
  • Improved quality of eggs

Most of the patients also retain the therapeutic effects of the treatment for 5-7 months.

For whom is it beneficial?

Women who experience the following issues may benefit from ovarian rejuvenation:

  • Women who wish to conceive without the use of donor eggs, or who wish to restore their hormonal balance and sexual drives naturally
  • Women who have a hormonal deficiency, but do not wish to take hormones
  • Women with early peri-menopause
  • Menopausal or perimenopausal women under the age of 50
  • Women of any age with infertility associated with low egg reserve.
  • Women with failed IVF treatments who consistently produce poor quality or genetically abnormal embryos.
  • Women with unexplained infertility.
  • Women with premature ovarian failure (POF)
  • Women with primary ovarian failure
  • Women with menopausal symptoms due to cancer treatment

Ovarian PRP can turn back the fertility clock for women who have experienced early menopause. It is a treatment that can help women achieve pregnancy naturally or with some help from other fertility treatments such as IVF or IUI. The safety of this procedure is also unchallenged. Since it is made from a person's own blood, there can be no transmission of blood borne viruses. Moreover, since there are no synthetic chemicals involved and ovarian rejuvenation therapy is made from the patients' own blood products, the possibility of an allergic reaction is also extremely unlikely.

The risks of this treatment are minimal. Some of the rare side effects people notice after the procedure are pain, fever, and some internal bleeding that usually diminish approximately 1-2 hours after the patient is administered oral pain medication.
